EDUCATION

Career Plan

Growing up, I changed "What I wanted to be when I grew up" many times. I am glad to say that I have chosen a career path I look forward to pursuing. That is a Physician Assistant (PA). School-wise, I plan on completing four years of undergrad, earning my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, and two years of a Physician Assistant program, earning my masters of science in Physician Assistant studies, hopefully with a study in dermatology. I plan on achieving these goals by keeping my mind on the target. I've always been told that "you can do whatever you put your mind to," and since my sophomore year of high school, this is where my mind has been.

I also plan on taking a gap year between my undergrad and grad school to work, receiving more hands-on experience while earning patient care hours (PCH) for PA school. My mother was formerly a CNA, so that was the route I was thinking of, but there are so many jobs and internships I could go into that interest me. Some are Emergency Medical technicians (EMT), Medical Assistants (MA), and Patient Care Technicians, so I am unsure.

Growing up, my family and I were often in a hospital because I have a younger sibling with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). This congenital disability affects normal blood flow through the heart. I was always around nurses, doctors, and many other healthcare providers. As I observed interactions between my brother and the healthcare providers, I started to derive my thought of "this is what I want to be." I told myself I wanted to be a doctor from a young age. As I got older and researched this role's schooling and other factors, I found that a PA was the perfect fit for me. My ideal work environment has always been in a hospital helping people.

If push turns to shove and I have to take a different path with my career, I think I have one in mind that would fit. That is a Physical Therapist (PT). My major, Interdisciplinary health sciences, allows me to pursue various careers, and fortunately, physical therapy is one of them. I would still be working with people and helping better lives, so it's a great alternative.

CLIENTS
Get To Know Me

Writing about oneself might be one of the most difficult things a person can do, but I'll give it a shot. My name is Javoi Lee, and I'm from Harvey, a Chicago south suburb. My family consisted of four brothers, my mother, my stepfather, and six step-siblings. My step-siblings didn't live with us, but they came around frequently, which I adored. On my father's side, I also have three siblings and three step-siblings. As you can undoubtedly guess, there was never a boring moment in my house. Growing up with so many brothers and sisters taught me to be a leader. I'm the second oldest in my family, and I'm aware that my younger siblings look up to me.

I've been running Cross Country for seven years. When I tell people this, they believe I'm training for another sport or am being forced to do so. In actuality, I just enjoy running. My inherent drive is running. I enjoy the sensation of wind on my skin as I push through it. I enjoy the sensation of my feet stomping on the ground. I enjoy the adrenaline feeling I receive as the finish line approaches.

To be quite honest, The University of Illinois wasn't even in my top 5 schools. Coming here was a last-minute decision, and it was because I was getting the most bang for my buck. In other words, they gave me the most money. I honestly am so glad I did come here. The people I've met in one week are unique, and I can't wait to meet more over the years. The campus is also beautiful, and I have yet to explore it all. Coming to the University of Illinois, I chose to study Interdisciplinary Health sciences. I chose this major because of the variety of specialties in tailors too. With this major, I will be ready for graduate school and any employment in the medical area that interests me. I intend to learn valuable leadership skills and opportunities by participating in I-leap. Integrity is a personal principle that I live by. No matter what is going on or who is looking. I should do what I know is right. As previously said, I am the second eldest in my family, and my younger siblings look up to me. As a result, I know I should always be in my leader mentality and set good examples.

Leadership

SKILLS

I believe that leadership is necessary for all occupations and daily life. I'm very strong at interpersonal and team-level leadership. I would like to develop my organizational leadership competency. I believe that interpersonal/team-level leadership is crucial because it is a networking and branding ability. I say this because you establish your brand or give yourself a good name and reputation through effective interactions and communication. You can expand your relationships and resources by developing connections with various people. I believe that organizational skill is an excellent leadership trait because it allows you to engage in your community and speak up for those who aren't heard. Leadership at the interpersonal or team level is a strength because it fosters relationships and demonstrates trustworthiness. As a result, people are more likely to engage in personal conversations, seek assistance, or share their experiences to inform or assist others. As I've already indicated, you are an active community member. You have demonstrated organizational leadership skills through volunteer work or advocacy, strengthening organizational leadership skills.

These skills are necessary for daily tasks and life, so having them could benefit you in college and future employment. With registered student organizations, group projects, and even part-time employment, collaboration is essential in college. Therefore, developing solid interpersonal and communication skills would be highly beneficial. When seeking leadership positions on campus, it can be helpful to have event management and involvement abilities. I will start exploring my neighborhood and seeking opportunities to give back to strengthen my organizational leadership abilities. I'll start standing up for my community and speaking up when I see injustice.

Community Service

EXPERTISE

I value community service because it gives me the chance to learn practical skills and expand my knowledge of subjects that aren't covered in the classroom. It raises awareness of the lifestyles of other societies and the various conveniences that could make life easier. Enhancing leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication abilities through community service. Anyone who participates in community service could, in my opinion, learn more about the world and how it operates. I believe that the more charitable work we all perform, the more people will benefit and the more closely our community will bond.

I've served my community in various ways over the course of my life, including by cleaning up my neighborhood, feeding the homeless, and volunteering in schools. I made a lot of observations while conducting my community service. I observed how my work and the efforts of my colleagues improved not only human life but also the lives of wildlife and the environment. It was useful since it taught me what to watch out for in my neighborhood. It also benefited my leadership and problem-solving abilities, as I already indicated.

I've participated in activities when I've cleaned up my neighborhood or assisted the homeless. Some of the folks I encountered while feeding the homeless were kind individuals seeking food. I also got to know people who were serving the community and giving back. These people shared my goals of finding ways to give back to the neighborhood that had done so much for us. Community service participation provided doors for other chances to give back to my community. I was able to decide that this is something I want to continue doing and maybe even turn into a career because the folks I was assisting were so appreciative of my time commitment. I've improved my communication, leadership, and even compassion skills. I am going to work in a hospital setting, and each and every one of these attributes would be helpful to the abilities I would need to acquire, so I know they would be beneficial to me in the future.
